We are thrilled to share that Formline’s Principal and President, Alfred Waugh, had the honor of serving as the Master of Ceremonies for The Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival’s Big Picnic, held on April 2, 2022, at David Lam Park in Yaletown. The Festival, one of Vancouver’s most beloved springtime events, celebrates the fleeting beauty of cherry blossoms and promotes the Japanese tradition of hanami (flower viewing).
Alfred Waugh, whose architectural work often bridges cultural traditions and community-building, was the perfect fit for this role. As emcee, he helped welcome guests to the Big Picnic, embodying the festival’s mantra: “there is no stranger under the cherry tree.” His leadership in this event emphasized Formline Architecture + Urbanism’s dedication to fostering inclusion and cultural connection within the communities we serve.
The Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival is more than a celebration of nature—it’s a community-centered event designed to bring together people from all backgrounds through shared experiences. Events like the Big Picnic invite residents to gather and connect under the beauty of blooming cherry trees, creating a space for cultural exchange and unity.
